Florida in December

2 12 2011

Wait, what? It’s December already? Whoa! Christmas is in 3 weeks!

I’m in Florida for a few days, and let me tell you, December in FL is quite different than what I’m used to experience up north! Ok, we did have unseasonably warm weather last weekend, but still, its normally quite frigid by December!

Here in FL, they say it’s really cold (for them). On Wednesday, it was about 55, and the woman on the radio said it was a “run on the treadmill kind of day” becuase it was so cold outside! Um what? That’s PERFECT running weather!

It was a bit chillier on Thursday morning (high forties), but I still was able to get a run in on the beach! There’s nothing like running next to the ocean Gulf. Hey, I’m okay with any large body of water, especially if its salty!

Then, I had lunch with Meghann, from Meals and Miles! I was in her neck of the woods, so we met up for lunch at this super cute coffee shop called Sophies.

I got there early to do some work, and so I snacked on a pumpkin cookie. There’s nothing wrong with dessert first. ๐Ÿ™‚

When Meghann arrived, we ordered our food. We decided to split the grilled vegetable sandwich and order our own cups of soup. One thing I love about eating with foodies is that they’re usually up for sharing when there’s so many yummy choices!

I ordered the Portobello Mushroom and Onion soup, topped with goat cheese.

Holy yum! It was SO good! It was similar to French Onion soup, but with chunks of ‘bellos. MMMM!

The grilled veggie sandwich was also quite good. I loved the crusty baguette!

I always think its fun/awkward to meet other bloggers. It’s fun because you share common interests, but a little awkward since you kinda already know a lot about them from their blog…Almost like Facebook stalking, but not as creepy maybe? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Regardless, it was nice to meet Meghann in real life! She’s off to Vegas tomorrow because she’s running a half marathon there this weekend! Good luck girl!

After lunch, the sun was shining, so I went for a short walk along the bay.

The water was really clear (at least close to the seawall), and I even saw a few (pretty big) fish jump out of the water. Strolling along in a short sleeve tee and jeans? Definitely not something that regularly happens in December in DC.

It’s kind of fun to be somewhere warm in December, though seeing the Christmas decorations on palm trees kinda weirds me out! I’m off to enjoy some more warm December weather. Have a great weekend friends!

Question of the day: Do you prefer warm weather Decembers or cold weather Decembers? Why?
