Happy New Year! Oh wait, we’re almost one week in to January…ok, ok, so I’m a little late to the game on this one. But better late than never, right?
So how did 2014 end? And what’s planned for 321delish in 2015?
Well, you all know that 2014 was the year of the Ironman.
It’s weird- when you plan for something that big, that far in advance, your whole year really does revolve around that event. In some ways, I felt like my year ended on November 30th. I mean, for 11 months, that’s what I was working towards- December didn’t exist. That’s unfortunaltey one of the reasons I didn’t make it home for Christmas. Note: waiting until 3 weeks before Christmas to book a plane home is not the best idea.
Anyhow, I kept myself busy in December with work, but also with plenty of kitty snuggle time.
Oh, and I finally WENT OUT. Like stayed up way too late and danced my face off WENT OUT. It was fun, but I think once per month is about my limit on that. I like being asleep well before midnight too much…
Workout-wise, I have done very little run, bike, swim. I think I went for a run about 3 weeks after Ironman because the weather here was just too darn perfect NOT to go. I only went 4k. It hurt. It felt slow. So I didn’t run again for another week. And then I ran twice in one weekend. Whoa. My legs still felt heavy, and I didn’t run for another week after that (probably not the pattern for getting back in to shape, eh?) but I’m listening to my body, and only doing workouts when I want to.
I’ve been focusing instead on my yoga, and I’ve practiced about 2x per week starting about 2 weeks after I got back from Cozumel. I know that’s not much, but each time I’ve gone, I’ve really enjoyed it, and I really want to keep that up (at minimum) throughout the year. I will master the handstand!
2014 ended at a quiet bar in Orlando, just me and Bill, enjoying dinner after he got off work. It was low-key and wonderful. I didn’t get to spend NYE with him the last two years, so it was nice to be together for this one.
As I think about what 2015 will bring, I’m still not entirely sure. I think I’ve still got a little bit of those post-IM blues, but I do know that I want to get back out there and magically be in shape again. I am honored to be a part of the SOAS team again, and my teammates’ enthusiasm and support is gonna help get me back at it soon enough. I do know that Bill and I are going to do whatever it takes to make another big hike (likely the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim) happen this year. The other thing I do know is that we only get one life to live, and there are so many amazing things out there – adventures to be had, delicious food to be eaten, places to explore – so let’s get out there and LIVE in 2015!
