2013 Goals

I know you’ve been waiting with bated breath for this post (er, probably not. But I won’t fault you for that 🙂 ).

So, here they are, my 2013 goals:

Personal

  • Read more frequently. So I know goals are supposed to be measurable, (SMART goals, I learned that from being a teacher!!) and “more frequently” isn’t exactly a discrete amount of time. One would think this is easy for me, since I don’t have cable. But most of my reading consists of blogs, Facebook statuses, and cramming in whatever book I’m reading for book club. Uh yeah, let’s grow up Steph, shut the computer and get your read on!
  • Learn/experience something new each month. Bill and I were having a conversation recently about one of the big differences in our personalities. He’s more of a get out and experience new things and don’t think twice about it kinda guy, whereas I’ll be a bit lot more cautious and think through all the details before deciding to dive on in. He lives life for the experiences. Bill is also constantly reading and learning new things and I really respect that. So, in 2013, I’m going to try to let a little bit of Bill rub off on me 🙂hang gliding
  • Volunteer at least once a quarter (hopefully more!). One of the things that brings me joy is serving others. Not in the sense of “can I take your order?” but doing something for someone else that makes their life a little easier. Whether it’s volunteering for a race, helping out at a soup kitchen, or showing cars where to park (which I did right before Christmas at the Metropolitan Ministries Christmas Tent), I never leave without a smile on my face and warm fuzzies in my heart. The world could use a little love.

  • Keep a clean/organized house. I moved into my new place and L-O-V-E it. Bill is my decorator/organizer/builder extraordinaire. He constantly reminds me that one of the keys to organization is that everything has a home. It’s okay to have a lot of stuff, but the stuff needs to have a designated place for it to live. Everything in my new place seems to have a home; I just need to make sure to return everything to its home once I use it!

  • #HappyList daily. I often see tweets from my friend Dee with the hash tag “happylist,” but I never knew what it was all about. So, I recently asked her about it (via Instagram) and she told me that it’s to help her remember the good things that happen in a day, instead of dwelling on the negatives. I thought that it was such a great idea and was inspired to start writing my own happy list. I’m 5 days in, and it brings a smile to my face to remember the positives from my day- no matter how big or small. I hope to continue all year long, if not longer! Thanks for the inspiration Dee!   #happylist

 

Fitness

  • Finish a half ironman. Injury sidelined me last year, but I’m feeling much better. So, Rev3 Venice Beach, I’m coming for you!
  • PR a half marathon.  This is a little ambitious, coming off of an injury, but I’d really like to go sub 1:50. (My PR is actually 1:51 something, at Rock N Roll USA) Maybe I’ll ask Mary to pace me 🙂

  • Podium at least once this season. This will be a tough one I think. I’m moving up into a new age group (eek!) and I believe the 30-34 age group for women is pretty competitive in most triathlons. I’m training hard with Team XP, so we’ll see what I can do.
