The ABCs of Me (Steph)

Happy Friday! I’m in Orlando for the 4th of July (blogger meetup anyone??), which is a first for me! In the past few years, I’ve spent the 4th in DC (duh), Boston, and Atlantic City, so I’m excited about being in a different city! I thought I’d give you a fun post for the weekend, the ABC’s of Me!

A few weeks ago, Chloe posted her ABCs so I figured that it was about time I share the ABCs of Steph.

Here goes!

The ABCs of Steph

A is for Apple, what’s your favorite variety?

Honeycrisp!! I love to eat honeycrisps but I’ll bake with just about any kind. I love going apple picking in the fall!

B: is for Bread, regardless of nutrition, calories, or whole grains what is your favorite type to have a nice big piece of?

I’m a sucker for quick breads like banana and pumpkin! Really, I’ll take any kind of sweet bread (No, not sweetbread, silly), like a cinnamon raisin or challah over rye any day!

C: is for Cereal what is your favorite kind currently (just one!)

D: is for Doughnuts, you might not currently be eating them but what kind do you fancy?

E: is for Eggs, how would you like yours prepared?

I’m a big omelet fan, especially with loads of veggies, but my technique kinda stinks! I’m working on it! In the meantime, I’ll stick to frittatas, like the one I shared on Jenny’s blog! Check out my guest post!

F: is for Fat Free, what is your favorite fat free product?

Greek yogurt! I’m a huge fan of Fage 0%. it’s so thick and creamy, you don’t miss the fat at all!

G: is for Groceries, where do you purchase yours at?

I love shopping at Whole Foods but it can be expensive! So I stock up on their 365 brand and check the sales. I also shop at MOMS, Harris Teeter, and TJs!

H: is for Hot Beverages, what is your favorite hot drink?

Tall nonfat mocha from Starbucks!

I: is for Ice Cream, pick a favorite flavor and add a fun topping.

Moose tracks! Peanut butter cups + fudge swirls = love.

J: is for Jams or Jellies, do you eat them, and if so what kind and flavor?

Crofters superfruit spread! I saw this on Kath’s blog and decided to try it out one time when I saw it on sale at Whole Foods. The Asia flavor makes a regular appearance in my oats!

K: is for Kashi, name your favorite Kashi product?

I don’t often buy Kashi products, but I like their granola bars and their Go Lean Crunch cereal is a great yogurt topping!

L: is for Lunch, what was yours today/yesterday?

I ate a big salad using the veggies from my CSA share, and I made a potato-beet salad; recipe to come soon!

M: is for microwave, what is your favorite microwave meal/snack?

I love sweet potatoes, and the microwave is a quick and easy way to cook one up! Top it with some butter and brown sugar and you’ve got an easy side dish!

N: is for nutrients, do you likes carbs, fats, or proteins best?

I guess you could say I like my fats, since I have an addiction to peanut butter. But, I try to eat a balanced diet as much as possible!

O: is for oil, what kind do you like to use?

EVOO!! I have canola oil that I’ll bake with sometimes though, if I don’t swap it out for apple sauce or yogurt!

P: is for protein, how do you get yours?

I used to eat meat every night for dinner as my main source of protein. However, in the past year or so, I’ve done some reading and watched some videos that convinced me that it is way healthier (and cheaper) to have a mostly plant-based diet. I’m not a vegetarian by any means but I love veggies and I eat a ton of them! I like experimenting with tofu an tempeh too; there are some really delicious and healthy meals out there that use these meat alternatives! Now, don’t get me wrong, sometimes I just get a serious hankering for some steak, but I don’t regularly buy beef, pork, lamb, or chicken. And since I don’t cook it at home a lot, its a nice treat when I go out to eat!

Now that I said my spiel, I get my protein by eating a ton of Greek yogurt, beans, and nut butters. I’m trying to work in some more eggs too, since they are easy!

Q: is for Quaker, how do you like your oats?

In summer, see letter C.
In the winter, I cook ’em up with almond milk, bananas, and chia seeds. Sometimes, I’ll make some zucchini bread oats for a special treat. It is probably my hands down, favorite way to eat oats, but its just a little more labor intensive than just plain oats.

R: is for roasting, what is your favorite thing to roast?

Brussels sprouts!

Toss them in some evoo, season with salt and pepper and throw them in the oven at 375° for about 30 to 40 minutes, until they are browned and crispy! Yum!

S: is for sandwich, what’s your favorite kind?

Getting through a loaf of sandwich bread is tough for one person, so I don’t make a lot of sandwiches because I don’t want to waste bread! But I definitely love me a Wawa hoagie or a White House sub! Anyone know where the famous White House subs is??

T: is for travel, how do you handle eating while traveling?

If I’m on vacation, I make a point to eat well! No chains please! If I’m on a work trip, I try o eat as healthy as I can, but often times that is a challenge, especially if I’m in a new city that has amazing food:) after a long trip of any kind though, I’m definitely ready to get back in my own kitchen!

U: is for unique, what is one of your weirdest food combos?

Hmm I don’t really know! I mean if I do serving that’s “weird” I may not recognize it as that, because it’s so good to me! Anyone who knows me- do you think I eat any weird food combos? Why are they?

V: is for vitamins, what kind do you take?

One a Day womens active metabolism. I generally eat well enough to not need to take a daily vitamin, but u figure it can’t hurt!

W: is for wasabi, yay or nay?

Only a bit, with sushi!

My boyfriend taught me this great trick for mixing together your soy sauce and wasabi so it’s not lumpy. First, put the wasabi on the dish. Then pour a tiny bit of soy sauce on top of it. Mix it together with your chopsticks to form a paste. Now pour the rest of the soy sauce in the dish. Voila! Non-lumpy spiked soy sauce!

X: is for XRAY. if we xrayed your belly right now, what food would we see?

A peanut butter cookie Larabar!! My favorite!!

Y: is for youth, what food reminds you of your childhood?

Grilled cheese and tomato soup. 🙂
Pork roll and cheese (some people call it Taylor ham) Anyone know what I’m talking about?

Z: is for zucchini, how do you prepare it?

I found this recipe for a festive grilled zucchini and sweet potato salad a while ago and it is definitely one of my favorites. Make it tonight!

Triple time!?! That’s awesome! It will be worth it when you are taking your next vacation or eating a ridiculously expensive but fabulous meal!

Woohoo, OOIAJ!! Sweet potatoes in the microwave are amazing! A great quick snack. We had a cookout with friends and watched the fireworks in DC:).
