Chloe and I have recently started using Twitter as a way to interact with some of our blog readers and to find new bloggers too. (Follow us! Chloe321delish and Steph321delish). I’ve already “met” a few DC-area triathletes who also have a serious interest in food. Hopefully, we’ll organize a “tweet-up,” aka group training/eating session, soon 🙂
So, on Friday night, I sent a tweet out to see if anyone would be interested in a long-ish ride on Saturday morning. Erin was free and wanted to ride, so we planned to meet up on Saturday morning at 7:30am (yes, we woke up that early on a Saturday) and bike some of the VA trails.
We got in a solid 29 mile ride on the W & OD and Custis Trails. This was only the second time Erin and I met (Read about the first time here) and the first time we have ever ridden together. It was really fun! We were able to chat some while we were riding, so it was great to get to know her better! I’m sure we’ll ride together again 🙂
On Sunday, I went for another ride, this time with another new training partner!
My boyfriend, who is an avid mountain biker, hopped on a road bike for the first time ever this weekend. Despite his unfamiliarity with road bikes, he was a rockstar! I was definitely workin’ hard to keep up with him! We got in a stellar 24 mile ride together!
Well…that 24 miles wasn’t exactly 24 miles straight…We stopped for an afternoon bite to eat:
Sushi from Cafe Asia! We ordered Salmon and Tuna Nigiri, a Firecracker Roll (tuna, tempura flakes, spicy mayo, avocado and sriracha) for the boy and a Spider Roll for me (Tempura Soft Shell Crab, Tobiko, Lettuce). The Firecracker Roll definitely took the cake for the best sushi of the day. It had a little bit of a kick, but the avocado on the outside balanced the heat nicely. Added bonus: did you know that spicy foods boost your metabolism? Check this out: http://nyti.ms/exXdVx.
And, since we were only down the street…I suggested we get gelato!
We stopped at Boccato for some YUMMY gelato! I got Elvis Pelvis, which was banana gelato with peanut butter swirls and some chocolate chips. Obvious choice for me 🙂 It was just the right amount too, so that I didn’t feel gross as we rode back home.
It was an absolute perfect weekend for bike riding, and I’m so glad I didn’t have to do my rides solo! Having a training buddy makes the “training” not feel so much like “training” and more like hanging out with friends, doing something active. 🙂
I love the friends that I’ve made through swimming, biking or running…or blogging and tweeting 🙂
Question of the day: Who do you excercise with?
